Malene Schjønning is an award-winning Danish filmmaker. An MFA graduate of Brooklyn College’s Feirstein Graduate School of Cinema, Malene recently wrote and directed the short film New Beginning, winner at the Black Swarn International Film Festival and One_Reeler Short Film Competition, 2022. She also directed the short Ships in the Night, the 2022 winner of the category Best Student Film at the Druk International Film Festival, Bhutan. 

Her short documentary film, DanceForce40+, was an Official Selection at the New York Short Film Festival, and the 40 NORTH International Dance Film Festival in San Diego, among others. Antipodes, her travel documentary, was screened in the “New Horizons” section of the Aljazeera International Documentary Film Festival in Doha, Qatar. 

Her first film STAIRS premiered at the Kent Film Festival and has been exhibited at Dance on Camera at Lincoln Center, and the A.I.R. Gallery in SOHO, NY. She is a recipient of New York Women in Film and Television’s “Emerging Female Filmmaker Award.”

Malene came to film after an extensive career as a dancer, having performed at The Royal Danish Theater and on Danish National Television. She studied at the LABAN in London, the Merce Cunningham Dance Studio in New York, and formed her own dance troop which performed at many New York venues, including Arts-On-The-Hudson.
